SXSWEdu Team Brings Dinner and Discussion Focused on Equity Gaps in the Future of Work to its 9th Annual Conference

AUSTIN, TX — March 6, 2019 — The Frontline Research & Learning Institute today announced that it will co-host its Civil Discourse Dinner series at SXSWEdu with Whiteboard Advisors and the SXSW team. The invitation-only event will take place in Austin, Texas at Max’s Wine Dive on Wednesday, March 6th, 2019.

“The Frontline Research & Learning Institute, along with Whiteboard Advisors, is excited and honored to bring the Civil Discourse Dinner series to SXSWEdu,” said Managing Director of the Institute, Elizabeth Combs. “The audience and the environment are ideal to have an open and honest conversation about equity gaps in the future of work as they exist in education today.”

The event will address the existence and impact of equity gaps in K-12 education on the future of work and will examine the personally held or community beliefs that influence participants’ views on the topic. The evening’s discussion will be facilitated by:

  • CEO and Co-Founder of EdSurge, Betsy Corcoran
  • Reporter and Editor for NPR and NPR Ed, Elissa Nadworny
  • Senior Editor for The74, and Launching Editor of RealClearEducation, Emmeline Zhao
  • Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author, Contributing Writer at Forbes Magazine, and LinkedIn’s Senior Editor-At-Large, George Anders
  • Former Executive Producer for CNBC and current Editor-in-Chief for WorkingNation, Ramona Schindelheim

Facilitators will lead tables of 10 attendees representing various leadership roles and viewpoints, including educators and superintendents as well as policymakers and education advocates. Their goal is to find common ground and a path forward in the best interest of the education community and the next generation of learners.

“Although our respective organizations address education issues in a variety of ways, we all benefit from a more respectful and productive approach to grappling with complex education questions,” said Sarah Silverman, Senior Vice President of Whiteboard Advisors and co-host of the event. “We’re excited to partner with such important icons in education, including the producers of SXSWEdu and the developers of the nation’s largest K-12 human capital management research database in Frontline Research & Learning Institute.”

Civil Discourse Dinners model the purpose of The Line, a publication of the Frontline Research & Learning Institute, to promote civil discourse around the more pressing issues facing K-12 education. The Institute and The Line have presented Civil Discourse Dinners across the country since 2017, however, this event will be the first in the Civil Discourse Dinner series to be hosted at SXSWEdu.
